Openers Rachael Haynes (93 not out) and Alyssa Healy (77) put up an opening stand of 126 runs after which Australia captain Meg Lanning (53 not out) joined the former and took the hosts home.

The win was set up, however, by a masterful bowling performance led by teenage fast bowlers Darcie Brown and Hannah Darlington. Brown, who won the Player of the Match award, returned figures of 4/33 in her nine overs while Darlington picked two wickets for 29 runs in eight overs. For India veteran captain Mithali Raj, who completed 20,000 career runs in the innings, was the highest scorer yet again with 63 off 107 balls. It was her fifth consecutive half century in ODIs, following up on scores of 75 not out, 59 and 72 against England while a 79 not out came against South Africa. However, she hardly got any assistance from her teammates. Mithali’s 77-run stand with Yastika Bhatia (35) for the third wicket was India’s highest in their innings. Wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh scored 32 off 29 balls while veteran fast bowler Jhulan Goswami scored 20 to drag India past the 200-run mark.Australia were hardly troubled in their chase, with openers Haynes and Healy all but wiping out any chance of India pulling off a remarkable win. Healy fell to Poonam Yadav in the 22nd over after which captain Lanning saw them through to the end with Haynes. All three of Australia’s batters scored half centuries with Haynes missing out on a century by seven runs.Click here for our site’s complete coverage of the coronavirus pandemic.
